TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Paris Olympics-bound Japan goalkeeper Leo Brian Kokubo will move from Portugal's Benfica to Sint-Truiden, the Belgian top-flight club announced Thursday.
"I look forward to wearing the shirt of this beautiful club, playing as soon as possible and thus contributing to the team," the 23-year-old Kokubo said in a statement released in Dutch on the club's website.
Japan keeper Zion Suzuki has been with Sint-Truiden since February but is rumored to be moving on this summer.
Kokubo, who stands 193 centimeters tall, helped Japan win the under-23 Asian Cup held between April and May in Qatar, where Japan earned an Olympic berth.
The youth product of the J-League's Kashiwa Reysol joined Benfica in 2019, where he has been playing in the club's second-division squad.
