Baseball: Kazuma Okamoto, Shosei Togo lead Giants past BayStars

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Kazuma Okamoto hit his 25th home run to back an eight-inning gem by Shosei Togo as the Yomiuri Giants beat the DeNA BayStars 6-0 on Thursday.
The Giants pushed their Central League lead over the second-place Hanshin Tigers to two games while reducing their magic number to clinch their first league title since 2020 to eight.
Yomiuri jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Naoki Yoshikawa opened the scoring with an RBI double and scored on a throwing error by first baseman Tyler Austin.
Okamoto's two-run blast to left made it 5-0 in the fifth at Tokyo Dome.
Togo (12-7) matched his career high in wins after striking out seven and allowing just four hits, three of which were to Shugo Maki. Anthony Kay (6-7) took the loss.
In Thursday's only other game, Tetsuto Yamada and Domingo Santana homered and drove in five runs between them, leading the Yakult Swallows to a 5-1 victory over the Hiroshima Carp.
