BANDO, Ibaraki (Kyodo) -- Rio Takeda claimed her second major title with a two-shot victory at the Japan Women's Open golf tournament Sunday.
The 21-year-old leader in the Japan LPGA season point standings has won seven times in her career, all of them in 2024.
Takeda closed with a 2-under 70 for a 10-under 278 total, two strokes clear of Akie Iwai, at Otone Country Club in Bando, Ibaraki Prefecture. Miyuu Yamashita finished alone in third at 7 under.
"When I won the Japan Women's Open low amateur title in my third year of high school, I thought I wanted to win this tournament someday as a pro," said Takeda, who earned the 30 million yen ($213,000) winner's prize and a three-year tour exemption.
Earlier this month, Takeda won her first major crown at the JLPGA Championship.
