37th Tokyo International Film Festival outline announced; to open Oct. 28

TOKYO -- The 37th Tokyo International Film Festival will be held from Oct. 28 to Nov. 6 in the Japanese capital's Hibiya, Marunouchi, Ginza and Yurakucho districts, it was announced at a Sept. 25 news conference as part of the outline of the festival.
Fifteen films have been selected for the competition section, in which the Tokyo Grand Prix and other prizes will be awarded, including three Japanese films: "Lust in the Rain" directed by Shinzo Katayama, "She Taught Me Serendipity" by Akiko Ohku and "Teki Cometh" by Daihachi Yoshida. Hong Kong actor Tony Leung will serve as president of the International Competition Jury. The competition section received 2,023 submissions from 110 countries and regions.
Ten movies will compete for awards in the Asian Future section for films by new Asian directors. Seven titles will be screened for the Women's Empowerment section, which has been newly established to feature films by female directors from various countries.
The event's chairman, Hiroyasu Ando, said, "We'd like to enhance international exchange efforts and make the film festival one that highlights Asia to the world."
