ISTANBUL (Kyodo) -- A bus carrying 21 Japanese tourists overturned Thursday in western Turkey, with eight of them taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a local guide.

The bus suddenly slipped and overturned while driving on a straight road in Afyonkarahisar Province, the guide said. It was en route from the UNESCO World Heritage site of Pamukkale to Konya, a city in central Turkey.

One person suffered a broken arm. Passengers who sustained only minor injuries are expected to rejoin the tour, according to the guide.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
