Japan gov't warns of phishing on fake Prime Minister's Office website

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The Japanese government said Wednesday it had confirmed the existence of a fake version of the Prime Minister's Office of Japan website that prompted users to input private data.
The real site of the office and its social media channels warned the public to protect their personal information if they access the fake site, which has since been taken down.
Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kazuhiko Aoki told a press conference the government had worked with the site's host to make it inaccessible.
"We are working with the relevant authorities and responding with a sense of urgency" he said.
According to the Cabinet Office, the site was discovered by government staff on Tuesday.
