LISBON (Kyodo) -- Japan forward Ayase Ueda scored his first Champions League goal as Dutch club Feyenoord defeated Portugal's Benfica 3-1 in a league-phase match on Wednesday, moving up to six points from three games.
Ueda, playing in the eighth Champions League game of his career, opened the scoring in the 12th minute at Estadio do SL Benfica in Lisbon after Igor Paixao raced down the left wing and cut back for his teammate to slot inside the near post.
Antoni Milambo smashed in Feyenoord's second through the legs of the keeper in the 33rd minute and completed the scoring in the second-half stoppage time with a low strike from the edge of the box. Kerem Akturkoglu slid in Benfica's only goal in the 66th minute.
"The first goal (in the competition) has been hard to come by so I'm happy, and relieved," said Ueda, who missed a penalty in their last game at Girona.
"Producing results constantly is the hardest thing, and also most important. I want to shift my focus to the next game."
Meanwhile, Celtic earned a creditable goalless draw away to last season's Europa League champions Atalanta of Italy and moved up to four points after Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda started and Kyogo Furuhashi came on in the second half for the Scottish side.
