TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The Japan Basketball Association said Friday that Tom Hovasse will stay as head coach of the men's national team.

Hovasse became the men's head coach in the fall of 2021 after he steered the Japan women's team to the Olympic silver medal in Tokyo.

At this year's Paris Olympics, Japan lost all three of its group-phase games but made significant progress under the 57-year-old American, taking eventual runner-up France to overtime, only to lose 94-90 in the end.
