SEOUL (Kyodo) -- North Korea has completed preparations for a nuclear test at its Punggye-ri nuclear test site for a possible test in November, South Korean lawmakers said Wednesday after being briefed by the country's Defense Ministry.
Pyongyang may also launch an intercontinental ballistic missile in November, the lawmakers said, citing the ministry's intelligence.
The defense ministry believes a nuclear test is set to be conducted at the nuclear test site, with the timing to be decided by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un based on various aspects, including the U.S. presidential election next Tuesday, according to the lawmakers.
The Punggye-ri site is where North Korea has conducted all six of its nuclear weapon tests to date, beginning in 2006, including the most powerful one in September 2017.
A mobile missile launcher has been deployed in North Korea for a possible test-firing of an ICBM before or after the U.S. presidential election, the lawmakers added.
