Tokyo stocks open slightly lower after Wall St. falls

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower Thursday, with technology issues tracking declines by their U.S. counterparts.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 118.32 points, or 0.30 percent, from Wednesday to 39,159.07. The broader Topix index was down 9.83 points, or 0.36 percent, at 2,693.89.
On the top-tier Prime Market, decliners were led by electric appliance, pulp and paper, and service issues.
At 9 a.m., the U.S. dollar fetched 153.20-21 yen compared with 153.36-46 yen in New York and 153.32-34 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The euro was quoted at $1.0858-0859 and 166.34-37 yen against $1.0850-0860 and 166.50-60 yen in New York and $1.0818-0820 and 165.87-91 yen in Tokyo late Wednesday afternoon.
