YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) -- The sixth game of the Japan Series between the DeNA BayStars and the SoftBank Hawks, scheduled for Saturday at Yokohama Stadium, has been postponed due to rain.
Game 6 of the best-of-seven series to decide the champion of Nippon Professional Baseball has been rescheduled for Sunday, while Game 7 will be played at the same venue Monday, if necessary.
The BayStars, who advanced as the third-place team in the Central League, lead the Pacific League champion Hawks by three games to two.
One more win will give the Yokohama-based club its first Japan Series title in 26 years and third overall. The Hawks are aiming for their 12th title and first since 2020.
SoftBank manager Hiroki Kokubo said the postponement would give his team a further chance to get back on track, having dropped three straight games at home after taking a 2-0 lead in the series.
"It would not have been good if things continued in the same way as at Mizuho PayPay Dome, so this rain is welcome," Kokubo said. "We can play in a reset state tomorrow. From there, all that's left is to win the following day if we want to be Japan's No. 1."
DeNA outfielder Masayuki Kuwahara said the BayStars' lineup would look to stay on a roll when the series resumes Sunday.
"Our momentum won't fade at all," said Kuwahara, who has tied a Japan Series record with RBIs in four straight games. "We'll all focus once more and get one more win."
