Football: Kyogo Furuhashi gets 1st Japan call-up this year

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi was called up to Japan's national football team for the first time in roughly a year when he was named to the squad Thursday for two World Cup qualifiers.
The Samurai Blue, who lead Group C with 10 points from three wins, no losses and one draw, will play away to Indonesia on Nov. 15 and in China four days later.
"We have two consecutive games in difficult environments," Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu said when the Japan Football Association announced its squad. "I want to have the best preparation so we can play at full strength and get two straight wins."
Japan are aiming to reach their eighth straight World Cup finals. The top two teams from each of the three six-team groups in a home-and-away format will advance to the 2026 finals to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
