BERLIN (Kyodo) -- Japan attacker Ritsu Doan said he needed to "do more" as Freiburg's leading scorer following a goalless stalemate against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on Friday.
The 26-year-old showed some promising touches but could not add to his tally of four league goals in a battle between two of Germany's strongest defenses at Berlin's Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.
The result provisionally moved Freiburg up to fourth place on 17 points from five wins, two draws and three losses.
"It's a disappointing result for me as an attacking player. I have to do more," Doan said.
The Samurai Blue star noted he was being more tightly marked as one of Freiburg's main attacking threats and said breaking down opposing defenses required a whole-team effort.
"I'm aware of it, but I don't feel like I can be stopped if I have the ball," he said. "Our challenge as a team is to improve our movement without the ball."
Doan will turn his attention to World Cup qualifying as he prepares to join the rest of Hajime Moriyasu's Japan squad for the upcoming fixtures away to Indonesia and China.
"I want to take a break and then switch gears," he said.
