NAGOYA (Kyodo) -- The all-pro Samurai Japan national team completed a two-game sweep of the Czech Republic with a 9-0 rout Sunday in its final warm-up for the Premier12 baseball tournament.
Shota Morishita hit a two-run homer to give Japan a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Manager Hirokazu Ibata's team put the game away with a six-run eighth at Vantelin Dome Nagoya.
A total of seven Japanese pitchers, led by left-handed starter Takahisa Hayakawa, held the Czechs to five hits.
The Premier12 features the top 12 teams in the world rankings, with defending champion Japan playing its Group B opener Wednesday against Australia. The final will be played at Tokyo Dome on Nov. 24.
