HELSINKI (Kyodo) -- Japan's Hana Yoshida on Saturday booked her spot in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final for the second straight year after narrowly claiming the Finlandia Trophy.
Top after Friday's short program, Yoshida was second in the free skate with 131.59 points for a 199.46 total. Compatriot Rino Matsuike had the segment's best 134.28, recovering from fourth in the short program, but she was 0.26 behind Yoshida overall.
Lara Naki Gutmann of Italy was close behind in third on 198.49, while Japan's Mai Mihara was eighth on 174.74 at the fifth event on the circuit this season.
"I worked my way through never giving up and I'm really happy to have won," said Yoshida, who fell on her opening triple axel but regrouped to secure her first win of the season and second in her career.
Yoshida placed third at the Grand Prix Final last season when she made her senior debut.
Yuma Kagiyama won the men's event earlier at Helsinki Ice Hall as he also secured his berth for his second Grand Prix Final, in December in Grenoble, France.
