TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan's Yukino Yoshida won her second speed skating World Cup 500-meters race of the young season Friday in a personal best time of 37.68 seconds.
The 21-year-old won one of the two women's 500s contested last week in the season-opening World Cup meet in Nagano, Japan, and placed fourth in the other.
"I was slow at the start but calmed down and skated the way I'm able to," Yoshida said. "This gives me confidence I can do well in overseas meets as well."
Jutta Leerdam and Dione Voskamp, both from the Netherlands, finished second and third, respectively, with Leersam 0.21 back of Yoshida.
In the men's 500, Japan's national record holder, Tatsuya Shinhama was third, 0.17 behind American Jordan Stolz, who improved to 3-0 over 500 meters this season.
Japan's Miho Takagi remained unbeaten so far on the season, winning the women's 1,500 after taking first place in the 1,000 and 1,500 in Nagano.
Takagi finished in 1:55.07, pipping the Netherlands' Joy Beune by 0.12, whose compatriot Angel Daleman was third.
