TOKYO -- The leaves of ginkgo trees at the Japanese capital's Meiji Jingu Gaien area, where redevelopment work is underway, have turned yellow, delighting visitors taking photos and videos of the fall scenery.
The roughly 300-meter-long section of a street is lined with 146 ginkgo trees, some over 100 years old and some taller than 28 meters. Noriko Ishikawa, 27, who visited with her year-old son Ayato, from Sayama, Saitama Prefecture, smiled and said, "I heard that the color was not good this year due to the warm weather, but I'm glad because it was more beautiful than I had expected."
A representative at the area's management office said that the best time to see the trees is until the end of this week, but added, "If strong winds blow, it will be over in a flash."
The trees are lit up until Dec. 1, between 4:30 p.m. and around 7:30 p.m.
