Jesiel (4) celebrates with Yu Kobayashi after scoring Kawasaki Frontale's third goal in the second half of their Asian Champions League Elite match against Shandong Taishan at Todoroki Stadium in Kawasaki, near Tokyo, on Dec. 4, 2024.
KAWASAKI (Kyodo) -- Kawasaki Frontale moved to within a point of the Asian Champions League Elite's East lead with a 4-0 home win Wednesday over China's Shandong Taishan FC.
Marcinho, Yuki Yamamoto, Jesiel and Shin Yamada each found the net for the J-League hosts, who dominated possession at Kawasaki's Uvance Todoroki Stadium and moved up to 12 points from six games.
Frontale opened the scoring in the third minute when keeper Wang Dalei blocked a shot, only for Marcinho to volley in the rebound.
"Our concerted effort from start to finish made this victory possible, and congratulations are in order for the entire team," Marcinho said.
Kawasaki keeper Jung Sung Ryong then stepped up, making two dramatic saves in a brief but furious onslaught in which a Kawasaki defender blocked another attempt.
The Japanese club made it 2-0 in the 41st minute on a scintillating free kick from Yamamoto, who curled his shot around the wall and through the gap between Wang's outstretched glove and the post.
Just after the hour, Jesiel headed a corner kick in at the far post, and Yamada completed the scoring in the 90th minute by tapping in when Wang was caught out of position.
Yokohama F Marinos lead the ACLE's East league with 13 points, followed by South Korea's Gwangju FC in second-place and Vissel Kobe, who both trail on goal difference.
