Tokyo stocks open lower as gains locked in, tech issues drop

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday as some investors locked in gains after four straight days of rises on the Nikkei index and tech issues tracked declines by their U.S. counterparts overnight.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 70.33 points, or 0.18 percent, from Thursday to 39,325.27. The broader Topix index was down 2.37 points, or 0.09 percent, at 2,739.87.
On the top-tier Prime Market, decliners were led by nonferrous metal, electric appliance and insurance issues.
At 9 a.m., the U.S. dollar fetched 150.10-12 yen compared with 150.01-11 yen in New York and 149.77-79 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Thursday.
The euro was quoted at $1.0585-0588 and 158.89-95 yen against $1.0583-0593 and 158.86-96 yen in New York and 1.0534-0536 and 157.77-81 yen in Tokyo late Thursday afternoon.
