Baseball: Star pitcher Roki Sasaki draws interest from over 20 MLB teams

DALLAS, Texas (Kyodo) -- More than 20 major league teams have contacted agent Joel Wolfe about hard-throwing Japanese right-hander Roki Sasaki, the agent said Tuesday.
The negotiating period opened the same day for the 23-year-old, and Sasaki will begin meeting with teams next week, Wolfe said in Dallas, where Major League Baseball's winter meetings are under way.
Since Sasaki is under 25, he will be classified as an international amateur free agent subject to bonus pool limits, according to MLB rules. That means his first contract will be a minor league deal.
Sasaki, now in the United States, is prepared to look at both big and small market teams without geographical conditions.
He will return to Japan before Christmas and come back to the United States after narrowing down his choices.
The talented but injury-prone pitcher had a career-high 10 wins against five losses with a 2.35 ERA in 18 games for the third-place Lotte Marines this year.
On April 10, 2022, Sasaki became the youngest pitcher in Nippon Professional Baseball history to throw a perfect game at 20 years, five months, striking out 19 batters, including a record-breaking 13 in a row.
In his next start a week later, he threw eight perfect innings before being replaced by a reliever.
