FREIBURG, Germany (Kyodo) -- Japan attacker Ritsu Doan set up the winner as Freiburg held on to beat Wolfsburg 3-2 at home in the German Bundesliga on Friday.

Doan's cross from the right was glanced into the left bottom corner by Michael Gregoritsch for what turned out to be a crucial 3-0 lead in the 61st minute at Europa-Park Stadion.

Freiburg moved up to fifth in the table, nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich ahead of the other weekend fixtures.

"The defender was wary I could go down the line...Simply cutting inside and crossing proved effective," Doan said of his assist.

Lukas Kubler scored a brace, slotting home from close range in the 42nd minute and heading in off the bar in the 51st. Jonas Wind rolled home in the 75th minute before Mattias Svanberg's acrobatic effort gave Wolfsburg hope eight minutes later, but a third goal did not arrive.
