FUKUOKA (Kyodo) -- A 43-year-old man was sent to prosecutors on Friday over the stabbings at a McDonald's restaurant in southwestern Japan that left one junior high school student dead and another injured, police said.
Masanori Hirabaru, who lives near the fast-food restaurant in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, allegedly stabbed a 15-year-old boy in the waist at around 8:25 p.m. on Saturday, with the intent to kill. Hirabaru has admitted to the allegation, the police said.
The police are also investigating Hirabaru on suspicion of murdering Saaya Nakashima, 15, who went to the same school as the boy and was with him at the time.
No prior links have been found between Hirabaru and the students.
Hirabaru allegedly arrived at the restaurant's parking lot at around 8:10 p.m. and attacked the two inside, who were waiting to be served, before fleeing the scene.
Hirabaru was arrested Thursday after the police analyzed footage from numerous nearby security cameras.
Investigators searched Hirabaru's house and confiscated some dark-colored clothing and a pair of yellow sandals similar to those the assailant was seen wearing, an investigative source said.
