BERLIN (Kyodo) -- Japanese forward Shuto Machino hit a brace and set up two more as Holstein Kiel came from behind in a 5-1 mauling of Augsburg at home in the German Bundesliga on Saturday, taking his season goal tally to six.
The 25-year-old, who began the season with four goals in the promoted side's first five games through September, was back on the scoresheet after bending in a 39th-minute free-kick from 25 meters out to give his side a 4-1 lead.
Machino, who was part of Japan's 2022 World Cup squad but did not play a single minute in Qatar, also tapped home in second-half stoppage time to complete the scoreline at Holstein-Stadion.
Alexis Claude-Maurice's low strike gave the visitors a fifth-minute lead but Machino's cutback from the left was side-footed home by Lasse Rosenboom to level seven minutes later.
Machino's deflected cross from the same side was headed home by Phil Harres in the 32nd minute as Kiel turned the game around before a shot from distance by the German forward found its way past the keeper to make it 3-1 three minutes later.
Kiel ended their five-game losing run and moved up to eight points as they sit 17th, six points from safety.
