MITO -- A 24-year-old Vietnamese technical intern trainee was arrested on the spot in Yuki, Ibaraki Prefecture, on Dec. 25 for allegedly stabbing another trainee who lived with him. The victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital where he was taken.
At around 8:50 p.m., the wife of a man who employs technical trainees called the 119 emergency number to report that interns were fighting with each other in a prefabricated house on the man's property.
Bui Huu Hung, 36, who was inside the house, was stabbed in the back, left shoulder and other parts of the body with a kitchen knife. Officers from Ibaraki Prefectural Police's Yuki Police Station who arrived at the scene arrested Nguyen Chi Thanh on suspicion of attempted murder.
Bui was transported to a hospital in Tochigi Prefecture, but was confirmed dead about two hours later. Police upgraded the charges to murder and are investigating the case.
According to the police station, Nguyen admitted to the allegations. The suspect was intoxicated at the time, and police are investigating the cause of the quarrel, among other matters.
