TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Argentina's WBA super flyweight champion Fernando Martinez, who is scheduled for a New Year's Eve title rematch with Japan's Kazuto Ioka in Tokyo, canceled a public training session Thursday due to illness.
The 33-year-old boxer had a "slight fever" of 37.8 C in the morning, according to his camp.
Martinez's trainer, Rodrigo Calabrese, said the boxer was affected by the change in weather from his balmy Miami training base to winter in Tokyo, but he would be in no doubt for the match at Ota City General Gymnasium.
The Argentine is fighting for the first time since beating 35-year-old former WBA and WBO super flyweight champion Ioka by unanimous decision in their WBA-IBF unification match at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan on July 7.
The undefeated Martinez reportedly relinquished his IBF belt after declining a mandatory title defense in favor of the rematch with Ioka.
