TOKYO -- A 77-year-old man was arrested Dec. 27 on suspicion of fatally hitting his wife with his car here after becoming angry when she accused him of cheating on her, police said.

Arrested on suspicion of murder was Norio Nakamura, a resident of Tokyo's Edogawa Ward. He was quoted as telling investigators, "My wife accused me of cheating and I got angry and worked up. I hit her with the car, and killed her by running her over."

Nakamura is specifically accused of killing his wife, also in her 70s, by hitting her with his car in a local parking lot at about 5:15 a.m. on Dec. 27. The woman was taken to a hospital where she died about one hour later.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Nakamura's wife accused him of cheating on her, and they got into an argument. When he tried to go out in his car, his wife stood in front of the vehicle, blocking him, so he ran her over, he was quoted as telling investigators.
