Baseball: Dodgers meet with Japanese pitching phenom Roki Sasaki: report

LOS ANGELES (Kyodo) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have held talks with hard-throwing Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki, multiple U.S. media reported Saturday.
"The Dodgers, considered favorites to sign the 23-year-old right-hander, join five other teams to have had confirmed meetings with Sasaki and agent Joel Wolfe," The Orange County Register said.
Earlier this month, Wolfe revealed that over 20 Major League Baseball teams had contacted him about Sasaki.
Sasaki has reportedly met with teams such as the New York Mets, New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs.
Since Sasaki is under 25, he is classified as an international amateur free agent subject to signing bonus pool limits, and his first contract will be a minor league deal.
Teams have until Jan. 23 to sign Sasaki, who has been posted by the Lotte Marines of the Pacific League.
In April 2022, Sasaki threw a perfect game against the Orix Buffaloes, striking out 19 batters, including a record-breaking 13 in a row.
The talented but injury-prone pitcher had a career-high 10 wins against five losses with a 2.35 ERA in 18 games this year.
