TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The Japanese Olympic Committee and Japanese Paralympic Committee plan to allow companies to sign a single joint sponsorship contract with both bodies from 2025, sources familiar with the matter said Sunday.

Until now, companies wanting to sponsor both the Olympics and Paralympics have had to sign separate contracts with each. At present, five companies sponsor both the JOC and JPC.

The two committees' decision to join hands is aimed at increasing the number of sponsors and public exposure.

There have been many calls from companies for joint Olympic-Paralympic contracts, but the JOC and JPC had been unable to reach agreement as their deals were based on separate sets of rules.

"We want to promote Japanese athletes and the games by benefitting from the strengths of both the Olympics' and Paralympics' strength," one source said.

Since Tokyo was awarded the hosting rights in 2013 for the 2020 Olympics, the idea of having the Olympics and Paralympics promote each other has become widespread.

Joint parades of Japan's Olympic and Paralympic athletes took place after the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro and again after this year's games in Paris.
