YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) -- Masayoshi Takezawa scored three tries for Yokohama Eagles in a comprehensive 53-35 Japan Rugby League One win Saturday over Shizuoka Blue Revs.
Although the Eagles wing was able to display his speed to dodge tacklers at Nippatsu Mitsuzawa Stadium, his scores were largely a result of the hosts being better at every facet of the game against the previously unbeaten Blue Revs.
"This past week, our theme was to take charge of the game, and you saw that in the first half," said Takezawa, who three times crossed almost unopposed down the left flank, the first just five minutes into the game.
Eagles center Jesse Kriel, who had been instrumental in Takezawa's first try, scooped up a Ryu Tamura kick on the bounce after the defense failed to catch it and scored in the seventh minute for the first of his two tries to give Yokohama a 12-0 lead.
The Blue Revs got first-half tries from Kwagga Smith and Malo Tuitama, who finished with two but went into the break trailing 34-14 thanks to Takezawa's second try and Eagles No. 8 Sione Halasili twice bulling his way over.
The second half saw both teams playing entertaining unstructured rugby while failing to defend as well as they attacked. Kriel iced the victory with a try after the final hooter that Tamura converted to finish with 13 points.
Elsewhere, the undefeated Brave Lupus Tokyo beat Urayasu D-Rocks 22-14, while Toyota Verblitz overcame a 10-0 first-half deficit to beat Black Rams Tokyo 32-18.
