TOKYO -- A man has been confirmed dead after reportedly falling from the Shibuya Parco shopping center in Japan's capital on the evening of Jan. 11, injuring a nearby man in the process.
A woman who was passing by on the street outside the facility in the Udagawacho district of Tokyo's Shibuya Ward called the 110 emergency number at around 9 p.m., and reported that someone fell from above. According to the Metropolitan Police Department's Shibuya Police Station, the young man found on the scene was confirmed dead at the hospital where he was taken.
A man in his 50s who was nearby was also taken to the hospital after sustaining injuries to his head. He is thought to have been struck by one or both of the falling man's legs, and reportedly was conscious when taken to the hospital.
Based on security camera footage and other things, it is believed the man fell from the 10th floor terrace. A video clip reportedly shows him voluntarily going past a fence, and police are investigating the possible causes including suicide.
Shibuya Parco is located in a shopping district about 500 meters north of JR Shibuya Station, near the Shibuya Center-Gai area popular with young people.
