MELBOURNE (Kyodo) -- Japan's Yui Kamiji picked up her third Australian Open wheelchair tennis singles title and first in five years, defeating Aniek van Koot of the Netherlands 6-2, 6-2 in Saturday's final.
But Japanese compatriot and 2024 champion Tokito Oda lost to Britain's Alfie Hewett in the men's wheelchair final 6-4, 6-4.

Earlier Saturday, Wakana Sonobe became Japan's first Australian Open junior girls' champion by storming past Kristina Penickova of the United States 6-0, 6-1 in the singles final.
The 17-year-old Sonobe, the fourth seed and a juniors finalist at last year's U.S. Open, overwhelmed the sixth-seeded 15-year-old Penickova at Rod Laver Arena in 54 minutes.
Kazuko Sawamatsu was the last Japanese to win a junior girls' trophy at a Grand Slam, back in 1969 at Wimbledon.
