NEW YORK (Kyodo) -- Shohei Ohtani spoke in English of the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles in a remote acceptance speech Saturday for his 2024 National League MVP award.
Reading from an English text, Ohtani briefly explained how the fires prevented him from attending the annual dinner in New York and expressed his sympathy for those affected by the disaster.
After thanking the Dodgers organization from top ownership to the clubhouse attendants, Ohtani returned the focus to Los Angeles.
"Finally, I want to dedicate this award to the entire city of Los Angeles, to all the first responders, firefighters and to all the fire departments for their heroic efforts," he said.
