KUMAGAYA, Saitama (Kyodo) -- Vince Aso scored a brace of tries Saturday as the Saitama Wild Knights continued their spotless start to the Japan Rugby League One season with a 53-26 victory at home to the winless Urayasu D-Rocks.

After six rounds, Robbie Deans' men lead the competition as the only unbeaten side and have an eight-point buffer over their nearest rivals, the Yokohama Eagles.

The hosts were in control from the outset at Kumagaya Rugby Stadium and led 32-5 at halftime against Greig Laidlaw's team, who added a measure of respectability to the final score with back-to-back tries in the closing minutes.

The Wild Knights took the lead after just six minutes, with scrumhalf Taiki Koyama pouncing on a wayward pass from opposite number Ren Iinuma and dotting down from five meters out.

Saitama hooker Kazuma Shimane strolled across for his team's second after catching an overthrown Urayasu lineout. Lock Lood de Jager strode through a gap in the defensive line to extend the lead to 22-0 with the extras.

Aso notched Saitama's fourth unanswered try in the 32nd minute with an outstretched arm as he was tackled at the line. The New Zealand-born winger also scored the first try after the break to help ensure the Wild Knights celebrated Japan prop Asaeli Ai Valu's 100th appearance for the club with a win.

In other results, the Eagles were 24-20 winners away to Toyota Verblitz, the Kubota Spears defeated the Sagamihara Dynaboars 40-12, Tokyo Sungoliath beat the Shizuoka BlueRevs 33-14 and the Kobe Steelers overran Black Rams Tokyo 44-15.
