ASPEN, Colorado (Kyodo) -- Ruka Hirano led a Japanese sweep of the men's snowboarding halfpipe podium at a World Cup event Saturday in Aspen, Colorado.
The 22-year-old Hirano, last season's overall World Cup halfpipe winner, scored 93.25 points on his third and final run. It was his sixth career World Cup victory and first in two seasons.
"It's so good to be on the top of the podium," Hirano said. "I was able to stay calm and perform. My success ratio for the triple cork is getting higher. I'll try to improve further by the world championships in March."
Reigning Olympic champion Ayumu Hirano finished second with 89.50. Ryusei Yamada rounded out the podium with 88.25.
Yuto Totsuka, also of Japan, was fourth, followed by Australia's Scotty James, who claimed Olympic bronze in 2018 and silver four years later.
The women's halfpipe event was won by two-time Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim of the United States, who turned in 91.75 points. Japan's Sara Shimizu finished third on 85.25, behind Choi Gaon of South Korea.
