TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Miho Nonaka won her second boulder Japan Cup in sport climbing on Sunday as Sorato Anraku became the youngest winner in the men's event.
Nonaka, the Tokyo Olympics silver medalist when sport climbing was contested in a combined format featuring speed, boulder and lead, won the domestic boulder title for the first time in six years by topping three of four problems in the final for 84.8 points in Tokyo.
"I've been second all the time (at this tournament). It feels great to have won for the first time in a while," said the 27-year-old, who eyes her first victory at the world championships in September.
"I always want to be a leading figure in the sport...I've never won at the worlds and that's what I'm aiming for."
Anraku, the Paris Olympics boulder-and-lead silver medalist, also topped three problems for 84.0 points in the men's final to set the youngest winning record at 18 years, 2 months and 19 days.
"I might be happier than the Olympics (silver)," said Anraku, the only climber to overcome the three problems with his first attempts.
"I was someone who used to go with intuition, but I've been practicing not to get flustered while judging situations. I've managed to show what I've been working on."
