TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Uta Abe made a triumphant return following her shock Paris Olympics exit as Japanese judoka swept five divisions Friday at the Baku Grand Slam.
The 24-year-old Abe had three wins by ippon en route to the women's 52-kilogram title in her first competitive action since the Summer Games, where the Tokyo Olympics winner saw her title defense end with a second-round defeat to Uzbekistan's eventual gold medalist Diyora Keldiyorova.
In the Azerbaijani capital, Abe beat Nikolina Nisavic of Serbia in overtime in her opener and Roza Gyertyas of Hungary in under nine seconds in their semifinal, both by foot-throwing techniques, before holding down Mascha Ballhaus of Germany in the final.
Paris gold medalist Natsumi Tsunoda won the women's 48 kg also on her competitive return since the games, securing ippon in all her four bouts including the final against Tara Babulfath of Sweden.
The day's other three finals were all-Japan clashes with Momo Tamaoki claiming the women's 57 kg, Paris bronze medalist Ryuju Nagayama the men's 60 kg and Takeshi Takeoka the 66 kg.
