SAPPORO (Kyodo) -- Japanese ski jumping star Ryoyu Kobayashi earned his second straight World Cup gold Sunday with another victory on home soil in Sapporo.
The 28-year-old broke an 11-month drought a day earlier with his first win of the World Cup season at Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium.
He jumped 132 and 137 meters to earn 278.4 points in the second competition of the weekend at the 1972 Winter Olympic venue, taking his career World Cup win total to 34.
Norway's Marius Lindvik placed second with a 274.2 total while countryman Johann Andre Forfang was third with 268.7.
Kobayashi, the men's normal hill gold medalist and large hill silver medalist at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, had finished no better than fifth this season before Saturday's victory.
The two-time overall World Cup champion appears to have regained his form at a fortuitous time, with Sapporo hosting the last World Cup round before the world championships in Trondheim, Norway, from Feb. 26.
