Snowboarding: Ruka Hirano, Tomita win halfpipe golds at World Cup

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan's Ruka Hirano and Sena Tomita won snowboarding World Cup halfpipe gold medals Friday in the last event of the season.
The 22-year-old Hirano won his second event in a row in the men's competition after scoring 93.00 points with his third and last run in Calgary, Canada, as he also sealed his third straight overall season title.
It was Hirano's seventh career win on the circuit as he saw off compatriot Yuto Totsuka, who came second with 89.75, and third-placed American Alessandro Barbieri with 83.25.
In the women's event, Beijing Olympics bronze medalist Tomita grabbed her first win at the World Cup after logging 90.75 also with her third run.
The 25-year-old placed above Maddie Mastro of the United States (85.25), who won the overall title, and Canada's Elizabeth Hosking (79.25).
