Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall St. gains

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday on buying after a plunge late last week and gains in semiconductor-related issues following advances by their U.S. counterparts.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 350.90 points, or 0.94 percent, from Friday to 37,506.40. The broader Topix index was up 31.01 points, or 1.16 percent, at 2,713.10.
On the top-tier Prime Market, gainers were led by insurance, securities house and service issues.
At 9 a.m., the U.S. dollar fetched 150.82-83 yen compared with 150.58-68 yen in New York and 150.43-45 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Friday.
The euro was quoted at $1.0411-0413 and 157.00-08 yen against $1.0370-0380 and 156.22-32 yen in New York and $1.0395-0397 and 156.38-42 yen in Tokyo late Friday afternoon.
