IGA, Mie (Kyodo) -- Ai Mori won her sixth straight sport climbing lead Japan Cup on Sunday as Sorato Anraku prevailed in the men's event to add to his boulder national title from a month ago.
The 21-year-old Mori, who stands 154 centimeters, oozed class as the only climber to scale all four walls over the weekend at DMG Mori Arena in Iga, Mie Prefecture.
"I'm relieved to have overcome the pressure and to have won by topping all the walls," said Mori, who capped her fine outing by stretching her body to grab the last hold, which was placed in a tricky position in the final.
"I've had many occasions recently where I fell while trying to get the last hold. I wanted to stop that this time."
Mori, who was fourth at the boulder-lead combined competition at the Paris Olympics, has a place already secured in lead for the world championships in September in Seoul.
Anraku, the Paris Games men's boulder-lead silver medalist, won the national lead title for the first time after he conserved his energy to allow him to go past a late section in the final that many of his rivals failed to clear.
"I've taken a good look at many areas before winning here. It's a result born out of efforts," said the 18-year-old. "I managed to get holds in a slow, assured manner at points where I used to go with momentum."
Anraku has his worlds berth secured in boulder.
"I'm convinced of my chance of getting good results and development in 2025. I'm looking forward to the worlds too."
