ROTTERDAM (Kyodo) -- Japan forward Ayase Ueda returned from injury as Feyenoord lost 2-0 at home to Inter Milan in the Champions League round of 16 1st leg on Wednesday, while midfielder Wataru Endo had another strong cameo in Liverpool's dramatic 1-0 win at Paris Saint-Germain.

Ueda came on a minute before the hour mark at De Kuip in Rotterdam after the visiting Italians led through Marcus Thuram's 38th-minute volley and a thumping 50th-minute finish from Lautaro Martinez.

Piotr Zielinski had a 65th-minute penalty saved for Inter before the 26-year-old Ueda was brought down inside the opposite box five minutes later, but no penalty was given for the Dutch side as they drew blank.

"I was looking to take the defenders on and have a shot. I need to raise my quality," said Ueda, who has two goals in the Champions League this season. "I need to produce the kind of result that is expected of me."

Ueda was back in action for the first time since Feb. 12 when Feyenoord beat AC Milan in the knockout-phase playoffs 1st leg. It also marked his first game under new manager Robin van Persie, their former star forward appointed on Feb. 23.

Japan captain Endo, whose playing time has been steadily increasing in recent weeks for Liverpool, helped them claim an unlikely win at Parc des Princes in Paris, where Arne Slot's men were outshot 28-2 but kept a clean sheet thanks to a string of world-class saves from goalkeeper Alisson.

Endo made numerous crucial tackles after coming on in the 79th minute, while late substitute Harvey Elliott side-footed home an 87th-minute winner, less than a minute after coming on with his first touch, set up by another replacement Darwin Nunez.

"It's a big compliment to the players as well that they want to be there for the team if needed, and they showed up today," Slot said.
