YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) -- Yokohama FC notched their second win since being promoted back to J-League football's top division with a 2-0 victory over visiting Cerezo Osaka on Saturday.
Kota Yamada bagged his first goal of the campaign in the 27th minute and Towa Yamane opened his account in the 53rd minute to seal the three points at a rain-drenched Nippatsu Mitsuzawa Stadium in Yokohama.
First-year manager Arthur Papas' Cerezo enjoyed the greater possession and created a handful of chances but were undone by defensive lapses against an opponent looking to quickly push forward whenever they had the ball.
Yamada hit the target with his first touch off a cross from striker Solomon Sakuragawa, who beat a pair of defenders along the byline before finding his teammate unmarked in front of goal.
Yamane doubled the advantage for manager Shuhei Yomoda's men when he blasted home from the right of the area after Cerezo keeper Kim Jin Hyeon palmed away a high ball.
In other results, Machida Zelvia provisionally moved up to second place with a 1-0 victory at home to Albirex Niigata, while League Cup holders Nagoya Grampus remained winless following a 2-1 loss away to Tokyo Verdy.
