HAMAR, Norway (Kyodo) -- Olympic 1,000-meter champion Miho Takagi led Japan to women's team pursuit silver Friday at the speed skating world championships in Norway.
The Japanese trio of Takagi, Ayano Sato and Momoka Horikawa crossed the line at the Hamar Olympic Hall in 2 minutes, 58.55 seconds to finish 2.46 seconds behind the gold medal-winning Netherlands team.
Canada, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic champion, rounded out the podium in 3:00.74.
Takagi said Japan, which took silver in Beijing, would have improved its odds with better race management and took responsibility as the team's leader.
"We went out too fast at the start. The lack of race management was entirely my fault," the 30-year-old Takagi said. "We have to skate to the best of our ability every time."
The Japanese men's pursuit team of Motonaga Arito, Shomu Sasaki and Riku Tsuchiya placed fourth, finishing 5.55 seconds slower than the United States' winning time of 3:39.24.
