OSAKA (Kyodo) -- Japan's Tomoki Kameda will challenge Angelo Leo of the United States for the IBF featherweight world championship at Osaka's International Exhibition Center on May 24, organizers of the fight announced Monday.
Kameda, the IBF's No. 1 challenger, will bid to become a three-weight world champion in his first world title match since losing a super bantamweight unification bout against Mexico's Rey Vargas in July 2019.
"I'm very excited," Kameda said at a press conference in his native Osaka.
"I'm going to get this belt no matter what."
The 33-year-old, who is the youngest and last active of the three professional boxer Kameda brothers, has a record of 42 wins, 23 by knockout, with four losses. The 30-year-old Leo is 25-1 with 12 KOs.
