TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Kobe Steelers winger Kanta Matsunaga dotted down in the final minute to clinch a 39-37 victory over Tokyo Sungoliath in Japan Rugby League One on Sunday.
Former All Blacks lock Brodie Retallick and Tongan-born former Japan winger Ataata Moeakiola each contributed a brace of tries in the comeback win by head coach Dave Rennie's team at Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Ground.
Replacement lock Naohiro Kotaki set the stage for Matsunaga's game-winner when he stole a Sungoliath lineout deep in opposition territory before flyhalf Lee Seung Sin found the streaking winger with a path to the tryline.
Sungoliath scrumhalf Kenta Fukuda appeared to have secured the win for his team off the bench when he muscled his way over for a 37-34 lead with the extras in the 76th minute.
But the visitors made their last roll of the dice count after scrumhalf Bryn Gatland kicked for touch as the clock ticked into the final minutes.
