WASHINGTON (Kyodo) -- U.S. President Donald Trump is set to unleash reciprocal tariffs as planned on April 2, but a set of sector-based tariffs, such as those targeting auto and semiconductor imports, are unlikely to come at the same time, a U.S. media report said Sunday.

Along with matching tariffs on U.S. trading partners, Trump has repeatedly said duties of around 25 percent on imported cars, up from the current 2.5 percent, will be announced on that date, which he has labeled "liberation day" for his country.

Citing a Trump administration official, The Wall Street Journal said the White House's plan regarding the reciprocal tariff action on that day remains fluid.

Bloomberg, which first reported the likely postponement on Saturday, said Trump's forthcoming tariffs are expected to be more targeted than the barrage he has occasionally threatened.

Bloomberg, citing unnamed officials familiar with the matter, said Trump is still considering introducing auto tariffs at another time.
