NAGOYA (Kyodo) -- Former world champion and two-time Olympic medalist Shoma Uno is aiming for new heights in figure skating as the producer of his first ice show.
The 27-year-old retired from competition last May and is busy carving out the "Ice Brave" exhibition to be staged in Aichi, Fukuoka and Niigata prefectures in June and July, when he will share the rink with his former coach Stephane Lambiel and the 2016 women's world junior champion Marin Honda.
"We'll have seven performers covering an hour and a half. It will be an energetic ice show that is also demanding to perform," Uno said in a recent interview with Kyodo News. "Our mentality and stamina will be key."
Uno is inspired by his senior countryman and two-time Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu, who has already blazed a trail in producing his own ice show after retiring from competition in July 2022.
"It's really encouraging to see people like Yuzu realizing a show on his own," Uno said. "My skaters will be practicing with a level of passion that we can confidently say is the best around."
"It's a phrase we want to say also after actually performing. We want to achieve that goal at any cost, and we'll be fixated on the level of perfection."
While he will no longer be judged by scores, Uno chose to center his show around the programs he used to skate in competition.
"While I was performing to my best during my competitive career, I was aware that I had plenty of room to develop," Uno said. "I want to call my programs this time their complete versions before moving on to the next ones."
