LOS ANGELES (Kyodo) -- Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out 10 while allowing two runs over five frames Friday as the Los Angeles Dodgers walked off 8-5 winners in 10 innings against the Detroit Tigers, extending their perfect start to the season to four games.
Yamamoto did not have the best of outings at Dodger Stadium, allowing two singles but no runs in the first inning, then giving up solo homers to Dillon Dingler in the second and Gleyber Torres in the third, respectively.
The right-hander regrouped and got five of his final six outs by strikeout before getting the hook. He got no decision after the Dodgers tied the game in the sixth thanks to Freddie Freeman's two-run shot.
"I somehow kept myself in the game," Yamamoto said. "I felt I could have pitched a bit better, but it was positive we managed to win today's game. I've been able to throw my splitters with confidence this season."
Mookie Betts went deep to left-center field to give the Dodgers an eighth-inning lead before the Tigers tied it in the ninth, then took a 5-3 lead in the 10th when Dingler tripled in two runs.
But the Dodgers tied the game again before Betts produced another big moment in the home half by blasting a three-run shot off Beau Brieske (0-1) to walk off with the win.
Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a walk, singling and scoring a run in the 10th.
