ST. MORITZ, Switzerland (Kyodo) -- Japan's Sara Shimizu captured silver and Mitsuki Ono bronze as U.S. snowboarding star Chloe Kim reclaimed the women's halfpipe world championship Saturday in Switzerland.
Back-to-back Olympic gold medalist Kim had the championship in the bag by the time she dropped in for her second run in St. Moritz, with none of the other finalists matching her first-run score of 93.50.
The 15-year-old Shimizu, a debutant on the World Cup circuit this season, scored 90.75, while the 21-year-old Ono earned 88.50 to match her result from the previous world championships.
"I wasn't in great shape since practice, but I'm happy to reach the world championship podium," Shimizu said. "I've been able to develop so much this season."
Kim won the competition in 2019 and 2021 before taking off the most recent world championships to focus on her mental health.
