Tokyo stocks open lower ahead of Trump's reciprocal tariff imposition

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower Wednesday, as investors remained on the sidelines ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's expected announcement on the details of reciprocal tariffs.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 2.03 points, or 0.01 percent, from Tuesday to 35,622.45. The broader Topix index was down 14.19 points, or 0.53 percent, at 2,647.54.
On the top-tier Prime Market, decliners were led by pharmaceutical, electric power and gas, and bank issues.
At 9 a.m., the U.S. dollar fetched 149.75-76 yen compared with 149.58-68 yen in New York and 149.62-64 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The euro was quoted at $1.0792-0796 and 161.61-68 yen against $1.0787-0797 and 161.44-54 yen in New York and $1.0800-0802 and 161.60-64 yen in Tokyo late Tuesday afternoon.
